Efika 5200B Project
Low Power Computer, Free Desktop

in category Applications & Software

Project Summary
Current Desktops use massive amounts of power, are upgraded every couple years and use mainly closed operating systems.

Our future will not necessarily include a lot of power for things, and the typical corporate interest in making software obsolete often as a business model will make data access more difficult as time goes on.

The EFIKA could be a machine with enough power to support typical desktop applications and even games. All it would need would be a platform to run on.

This project focuses on the Operating System itself. A lean system with existing applications - for example enable writing a book with LaTeX, or a common spreadsheet.

Existing technology should be used where it makes sense. But the overall system must be freely modifiable to keep users free.
