Efika 5200B Project
A reference case for Efika

Project Summary
I\'m willing to create a reference case for Efika, with elegant and distinctive design. Trough concept, modelization, and prototyping, I want to use my skills for the best.

For information, I\'ve a diploma in industrial production (baccalauréat).

I\'ve made severals case designs in the past, all with different objectives, but always considering people around me asking for modifications and features.
For example, this one was the thirst of a three desktop cases I\'ve conceived : it was designed after a first discussion about the technical solutions ppl want to see in a box, like no riser, 3\'1/2 HDD, the possibility to mount other cards easily. All the pieces are designed to be possibly produced.

Another example here : the second project. A friend asked me to make a try with \"not rear\" connectors, to make access easier ; to make a different thing, I\'ve tried to use riser cards, to make a 2U case.

These two cases have been exclusively designed for a Pegasos mobo.

For this case, according to bbrv idea, I\'ve imagined a little box, with easy inside access, and a distinct design to avoid ressemblance with other existing products. I\'ve thinked of a possibility to stack easyly the units too, and some other cool features.

Hello guys !

So, after two days of hard work *kof kof*, here they are !

More than words, the pictures ;)

there's an USB hub on the upper part, who have 4+1 ports (1 for the CD/DVD drive). The USB wire is the hub ones.

You can see two cases : for those who haven't read my blog, it's the illustration of one of the features I've looked for : the possibility to stake the cases, with only one power button.

Mmmm, the little power connector is for the power supply, I imagine you guessed it ;)

If you have any questions or suggestions, I'm willing to ear it !

And two more, with an expresso coffee cup to give scale :

  Great advances

Hello my_blog !

Today, we've made a lot with my little brother in the modelization of the box ; we have almost finished the outside and inside. We only miss the USB hub connection, the Efika logo, and some stuff concerning the CD-ROM.
So you will have some good news really soon, via a dedicated topic, of course :)

Hello my_blog,

this time, it was hot ^^ I've just finished, with the help of my little brother, to adjust the dimensions of the rear panel of the box with the real MoBo ... and it was hard. It's really difficult to modelize something without its real dimensions, I can see it now ...
But after some cutted paper, it seems to be good ^^
More interesting things to come, of course.

Has you must have seen, the project is in standby ; it's only (I hope) for the holyday period. I've a lot of work to do for my job, as I'm techie in point of sale stuff.
Happy chrismas, new year and holydays folks ;)

Hello !
Today, 've made a first version of the rear of the case. Here it is :

I've made the choice of using directly the back of the case, essentialy because this case would be an "efika only" box. I've some things to modify (the COM port, to make the details of the network plug, [...]) to have a real idea of the look of all of this.

Absolutly another thing : I've tested the option of an USB driven CDROM drive ; the firmware reconize it without a problem. I've no time for now to install Linux on the machine, but there's no reason it won't work ; so I go on this idea. I don't forget the USB hub feature in all of this, of course.

After a little overlook on forums about the Efika, I've noted two things :

- ppl regret the only 2 USB ports, so I'm thinking about adding at least 4 USB ports (hub) on the rear of the top module, plus 1 on the front, for USB keys (I'm searching for a way to integrate it without breaking the design)

- I don't know the way to use to connect the DVD drive, by USB or by using a connector to connect it before the 2"1/2 HDD ... I'm waiting for the MoBo to see what would be the best solution. But in order to keep the possibility to remove the "top part" easily, I think I must use an external USB wire ...

So wait and see ^^
A neat idea (in my point of view ;))

Hi my_blog ^^
As a first entry, here is the result of my work on the Efika case design :

The first image is for the "standard" box, with a cdrom on the top and a "core unit" under.
The second picture shows how it can look when two units are stacked. The presence of only one "cdrom brick" is that on a cluster, you don't need it ; there's one here especially to have a power button who can start up all the stack.

The drawns are made with Catia, with the help of a friend of mine (thanks irion, see you soon pal ^^). The dimension are correct (with a margin of 2-3 mm). I haven't created the "inside part" for now, because I haven't the MoBo in front of me.

Stay tuned !
