Request for Test Unit

Project Summary
Reasoning Mind is a non-profit organization aiming to improve middle and high school education through the use of Internet technology and innovative teaching practices (for more, see www.reasoningmind.org). However without an internet connection and device—heretofore a standard PC—Reasoning Mind can not deliver its curriculum. At many of the schools we serve the cost of traditional PCs has proven a stumbling block.

To that end we are interested in entry level thin client workstations suitable for a classroom environment. There are several hurdles that must be met for such a machine, it must:

1. Run the RM system,
2. Be inexpensive to acquire,
3. Be inexpensive to operate, and
4. Have a small foot print.

The PegasosPPC looks to be an excellent candidate for our needs (with proper enclosure, etc.) Although platform and browser independent the RM does require heavy use of Macromedia’s FlashPlayer and ActionScript programming language. We have found some problems on other platform / Linux configurations. This proposal requests a unit we can test.
