Without the final dimensions, I can only guess, but I think one of these extruded aluminum cases from Hammond would work well.

http://www.hammondmfg.com/1455.htm

They are good looking cases, and can be purchased cheaply in single quantity.
The EFIKA final board is 118x153x36mm. Graphics card will increase the height by about 10mm or so.

This one will fit. However I worry about the power supply options, so I vote for this one;

http://www.hammondmfg.com/pdf/1455T1601.pdf

30 EUR for one, as low as 19 EUR for 50.

The actual EFIKA board with a very carefully chosen graphics board will fit INSIDE a standard half-height CDROM chassis. If you are stuck for cases, break an old disc drive open, and you just need to make a custom back and front for it (this is easy as pie).

if you look back a bit further in bbrv's blog there are some mockups for a case for the game dev kit by gunnar
Find them, post the links here :)

Bill's blog is treacherous to search :)

I'd like a case looking like this one :

;-)

not far from this design :

that case is cool, it would be great if bplan could provide a backplane with the efika for the configuration shown... or perhaps sell them as an add-on

The one on Bill's blog?

I have no idea where that image came from, what company etc., and you can see that "making a backplane" is far from the requirement. It looks like you'd have to remodel the entire chassis.

This is NOT the planned EFIKA development system, it's just an EXAMPLE :)

Another problem with that particular case is that it is easy to see from just pictures, it won't fit a graphics card in it. In fact that very system.. has.. no.. graphics.. output.

The board looks nice but...how do I install an operating system (like MorphOS) from CD? All I can see is a 44pin header for 2.5" hard drives. Where do I connect a CDrive?

i think it will be possible to install from a network ressource, but Matt could tell us about it maybe.
you can also plug a slim cd or dvd drive, and making a 2,5"/3,5" ribbon cable is quite an easy thing to do.

Hm, ribbon cable has female connectors and the connector on the board is female too. Even if I like lesbians touching each other I would need another solution. When adding a cable can I still use the screw holes for the drive or will I get conflicts with the gfx board?

Network install would require at least some access to the board. If you don't have anything your are lost.

How about setting up some kind of reward for the best
working case design?

Loan out a bunch of EFIKAs to the ones who sign up and
the 2-3 best designers get to keep their boards?

* The design should be fairly easy for everyone to build themselves
* The designer could make them and sell them at a good price

Or something like that. I'm sure there are a few good
craftsmen around here.

We could do something like that. We should tie this into support from other Corporate Sponsors. 8)

R&B :)

USB port. The EFIKA firmware revision boots from USB and supports USB keyboards.

The reward is a free EFIKA and then making money selling your design isn't it?

as to being fairly easy to build, it would be different for everyone because some tools such as a tap and die set are an absolute must for making compact cases out of metal or plexiglass (/other plastics). As i have some free time coming up i might brainstorm some ideas for a case. But i do have an idea which would need rivets, basic metal working skills (bending alu sheet and cutting plate iron and tooling screw holes) and a few hours to build from scratch.

It would look a bit like an apple mini
