It's not fair! :(
Any other packages merging fine. My CFLAGS settings are the same as yours. I guess I have to try a nother ram module. What brand do you use?
But why OOo merged fine with a kde-only system?
well that's weird. Here i can't merge kdelibs...

i use PNY DDR PC3200 512Mb ram modules, not even ECC.

It's must be some evil troll making mess around... :twisted:
When I used a kde-only system, I had pegasos-sources kernel. Now It's not exist anymore in portage tree, so gentoo-sources(2.6.12-r6, stable) running here with a config I made with pegasos-sources. (Genkernel fails to make a kernel too). I stil have the old kernel dir on my system, so I will give a shot with that, just for 'fun'.

@rogeruis

Is Open Office the only thing that you can't compile? Have you tried to emerge openoffice-bin?

If you only have need for a word processor, AbiWord is quite good and much smaller.

@Aaron

Openoffice-bin works fine, and more tha enough. Using Abiword too :) witch is very cool thing. (Find gnumeric works better with excel files too!)
It's just me cannot be rest until find the answer for 'why not'.

Other thing:

Recently I have discovered that cannot play cds (again... :lol: ) I had this before, my user was not in the group 'disk'. Now its in these groups:
  • disk wheel audio cdrom video games cdrw usb users
But this time the problem is somewhere else. Gnome cd player can read the tracks, recongnizes the cd title, but klicking on play button makes cpu usage 100%, and the system goes unusable slow. But not playing cd. Other cd players cannot even read cd-s. In a freshly installed system it worked fine. This behave came up after updating portage (At least, tryed playing cd-s after).

another compiling issue to add here... with kdelibs-3.4.1-r1

grep: /usr/lib/gcc/powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu/3.4.1/libstdc++.la: No such file or directory
/bin/sed: can't read /usr/lib/gcc/powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu/3.4.1/libstdc++.la: No such file or directory
libtool: link: `/usr/lib/gcc/powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu/3.4.1/libstdc++.la' is not a valid libtool archive
make[3]: *** [libkio.la] Error 1
make[3]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/kdelibs-3.4.1-r1/work/kdelibs-3.4.1/kio'
make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/kdelibs-3.4.1-r1/work/kdelibs-3.4.1/kio'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/kdelibs-3.4.1-r1/work/kdelibs-3.4.1'
make: *** [all] Error 2

!!! ERROR: kde-base/kdelibs-3.4.1-r1 failed.
!!! Function kde_src_compile, Line 164, Exitcode 2
!!! died running emake, kde_src_compile:make

i tried several times, with different settings but i cannot emerge it, and i need it badly to emerge k3b !

UPDATE : fixed, i had to run fix_libtool_files to fix it. paths were bad after the gcc update.

@SoundSquare,

What happens if you emerge an older version?
