btw... i have mounted this image, /etc/issue file contains "Ubuntu 10.10", is it okay ?
That is just a small oversight and should not affect any of the functionality.

is it possible to install this distro on headless smartbox ?

I don't have a headless image set up for this. but there is no reason you couldn't hook up a screen and keyboard and then install this image. it should boot up without a display/keyboard attached. you would just have to make sure that you have ssh installed so you could get into it. if you didn't need any of the dekstop or multimedia stuff you could remove that (tasksel is great for this purpose)

as far as the /etc/issue goes I think i started this image out by upgrading from maverick and then fixing the more major issues that came up by hand. so that might explain why. The actual installer itself (the part where you boot with the SD card and it then turns off) is just the old maverick image with the rootfs tar replaced with my own. been over a year since I worked on this so my memory is a bit fuzzy.

I just would like to say a loud "Thank you!" :)

Finally I'm back from conferences so I had a chance to download the image and install it. It went smoothly, just as installing all the updates. I used my smartbook for an hour and I did not run into any troubles.

Many Thanks!

Seems to work well except the wireless update might be missing.
> http://steubentech.com/~talon/Efika-MX/ ... 3.5-1spnc/
Without it i had the same issues (freezes) i had a year or two ago.

Other than that it is a armel / soft-float distro without the "odd" ubuntu unity.
Thumbs up for the nice Cairo dock panel work and look.

Good point. let me see if I can build a new (well "new" ) compat wireless for it over the weekend. I'm not 100% sure I still have my old patches I used for the precise kernel but I will find out. when I get around to it I will post a link to the deb packages.

Ok you can now find a working compat-wireless at http://steubentech.com/~talon/Efika-MX/ ... ss/precise

it depends on the linux-firmware package, so install that first.

The source is included and my changes will soon be updated at https://github.com/wschaub/compat-wireless

you can also learn how to build it at http://library.powerdeveloper.net/index ... atWireless

Have install issue:
- copied *.img file to SD card (sudo dd if=/home/***/precise-armel-installer20140330.img of=/dev/mmcblk0 bs=4096)
- installation process on Efika MX was started but in step (copy desktop files or something similar) laptop suddenly goes off.
- after reboot I see:
BusyBox v1.18.5 (Ubuntu 1:1.18.5-1ubuntu4.1) built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of buil-in commands.

You might want to try writing the image to your SD card via MacOS or Windows. You will find instructions on the following page: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Insta ... omImgFiles

A few users have had difficulties with "dd" in the past.

1. Don't use Ubuntu software center. It's horribly slow. Just use apt-get from command line for both installing and updating things.
I found App Grid (http://www.appgrid.org) to be a nice alternative for people who prefer a more visual and mouse-driven user experience.

Anybody who would like to try it, open a terminal and type the following:
Code:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:appgrid/stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install appgrid
After a successful installation, you will find App Grid in your Application Menu under System Tools / Administration.

I suggest to remove the onconf package that burst the cpu after any install/update
Code:
sudo apt-get remove oneconf
