All, Noobie on this board and found you doing search on CHRP and YABOOT installs. I have thread on my build at: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php? ... ost7415254 so won't retype all here. I have had lot's of challenges in this project. I can use some help. See there are several here that have either attempted or done this before. Please chime in. Where I'm at is I was able to rip all the files out of the ISO on my Win box, with MAGICISO, and copied them to my Ubuntu box. I also found the latest YABOOT .tgz and downloaded to U-Box. Still looking for the hfs files to download, as I understand I need them. Could not find link or a file directory online yet. Could not get mkisofs or isomaster to successfully load on my U-box, need some help there as well, do not understand why they do not load. The HOWTO for CHRP boot at: https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/installati ... 05s01.html Suggests, by section title, that I have "OpenFirmWare". NOt sure what that means, but notice the section is "Not yet written". The HOWTO at: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Insta ... tomization Is not well written. It does not have a "Prerequisites" section, nor does it have a clear section on howto "RIP" the ISO, to prepare the additional files needed, prior to rebuild. Therefore one has to dig through it to decipher what is being said about the different things involved. Remember the max size for any rebuild is 699MB and some files/features may have to be discarded in the rebuild process to keep the ISO size under the limit. Nothing is mentioned about this in either of these nor are suggestions given for what files/features that can be deleted, without system impacts, to keep the rebuild under the size limit. All, The book found at: http://books.google.com/books?id=HZ37FT ... 2#PPA15,M1 gives link to hfs.map as: http://people.ubuntulinux.com/~cjwatson/hfs.map but link has changed, since printing to: http://people.ubuntulinux.org/~cjwatson/hfs.map So now have this file needed for this install. A, Thanks for you post. Yes the HOWTO at the link you provided is good, but remember, I am having trouble getting mkisofs to load on the machine. When I download the .deb file and try loading that way I get a "not supported version" error and it will not load. When I use "Synaptic Package Manager" I also get an install error, so either way can not get mkisofs to load, so without that, can not follow the iso build instructions. Any suggestions on how to get around my delimna? Thanks! OMR |

All, Cleared this over the week-end with help from the guys at: irc.freenode#ubuntu Turns out my status file at: /var/lib/dpkg/status was corrupted. When I got it cleaned up the: apt-get upgrade and the app installs ran, so have both ISOMATER and genisofs (replaces mkisofs on U) out there now. Thanks! Note: My BP contact at Canonical opened a ticket with IBM on this distro, so starting to get some feedback from them and should help getting this build done. Thanks again! OMR |

We're reading it but it seems like you're using some kind of Mac or Motorola CHRP box which isn't totally supported by Ubuntu - in which case the Ubuntu IRC channel you found is exactly where you will need to go for support on getting it installed and problems down to the finer points of the architecture.I no one reading this or is it just too complex? OMR Unfortunately we're more generic CHRP people and specifically about the Pegasos (perhaps a little help on some old Motorola boxes too, but I know those people with the right knowledge do not check the forums every day :) |

CRUX PPC 2.5 (32bit) should work on IBM CHRP 604e based machine, i use the conditional 'cause our beta-tester with rs6k 32bit disappeared some months ago then i'm not 100% sure that our bootkernel is well done.
