I have now an x86 tablet on my desk. It came with the latest Ubuntu optimized for tablet. Still, it's far from perfect user experience. Only those apps work, which were designed to work on a tablet. The rest is really inconvenient. X86 has an advantage on drivers, ARM on power, size, video performance (if there are drivers at all...).
Once I have a little time, I'll check the tablet with openSUSE using Gnome3 and KDE Active Plasma (KDE tablet interface), but I have a suspicion, that for tablet it's better to use Android...

I don't care so much about the screen or ssd size.
What I would like to see is a smartbook with more RAM (1-2 GB) and I would really like to see a quad-core option.

The reality is that I already have a smartbook and a dual-core tablet, and am unlikely to upgrade unless
there is an option offering better performance than the tablet that I already have.

Plus, what good is long battery life if it takes you twice as long to open every application. You lose all the benefit.

You are right about the screen resolution, it's what most people have right now: http://gs.statcounter.com/press/screen- ... developers

And a quick follow-up to my previous post: I tried to test openSUSE with Gnome3 and KDE ActivePlasma on a tablet, but had no luck: touch screen and openSUSE did not play nicely together. On the other hand I had the best Android experience ever, at least in the terms of speed. Of course, an ARM tablet is half the weight and twice the battery time :-) See: http://czanik.blogs.balabit.com/2012/04 ... next-year/
