The Mississippi State EcoCAR won the National Competition last week. The Efika MX was along for more than just the ride....;-)

Congratulations to Mississippi State!

I wonder, what that large red button could be at the lower left corner of http://www.genesi-usa.com/gallery/single/2441 Is it a panic button? :-)

The dashboard looks really nice. And what I like, that all information is available at once. My car also has a so called "car computer" which can display many useful information. But there only one value can be displayed on a tiny LCD on the dashboard, and it can be controlled from a very inconvenient location (I often miss it and turn on the radio instead...).

Is it going to be used in real cars? I hope to see it soon in a car on sale!

Yes, it is. There are multiple on the car. It is required by the competition, as are two automatic fire extinguishers (batteries and motor) and other safety features.

good job, mississippi state. reminds of a WRC dashboard project I worked seems like a lifetime ago. back in the day it was essentially a tablet PC with a 486 (or 386) innards, and a 2D blitter engine. the cool thing about it was the workstation-side configuration software - it allowed total customisation of the layout of the dashboard. don't ask me how much power that PC drew, though (i really don't know : )

Thanks for the support guys!

As Johan has already stated, the big red buttons are our emergency stop buttons. They disengage our vehicle high voltage system as well as disable our diesel engine's fuel injectors and a few other things to force our vehicle into an unenergized state.

The current gauge cluster is rather sparse, we are planning a few big graphical upgrades to it. We are also implementing a digital 'infotainment' center to replace our stock radio.

Customizing the gauge cluster is in in our plans, via themes selected from the infotainment center. Also on the list: in-vehicle diagnostics, multimedia playback, and GPS navigation.

As we go along, I'll come by every so often and give an update. I have to be careful though, don't want the competition to catch up :D

If anyone has a question, feel free to ask!

Hi Jonathan, please send us an email with your shipping details. We want to send you another unit so you don't have to update the software while sitting in the car...;)
