| Post subject: | Where is the Fixstar quad G5 Powerstation ? |
Fixstar has updated it's web site. Now it talks about X86 ( :-( ), and... without any further information it seems that Terrasoft Powerstation has simply disappeared. Price had dropped, I was thinking about buying one... but... non X86 desktop machines are always discontinued. Could we live in a normal word where choice exists ? Hope that new Amiga X1000 and new dual PPC "openhard" motherboard will get success they must have. |

can you blame them? they got ditched by ppc twice. First IBM loaded them with over-expensive workstations with a discontinued G5 CPU that very few bought, and then Sony screwed them over the PS3 Cell. Why should they cling on to ppc?

i think this is the last one: http://www.gvs9000.com/gvs90004u1.html GVS9000 series are G5 powered products. I suppose this U1 is available also as workstation (tower). |

The MPC8610 is a fantastic chip, and there is still a chance, that a board will be developed for it: http://projects.powerdeveloper.org/program/mpc8610 Also, an ARM CPU is already a perfect choice for netbooks, and I expect that it will be soon good enough for entry level desktop too. The EFIKA MX is already a step into this direction, with the right software selection one can do almost anything on this machine. One just needs to forget some heavy weight software like OpenOffice, but the same problem is coming also on my aging x86 desktop :-) |
