So, let's just pretend for a moment that some people still don't use GNOME (or KDE). Still with me? Cool. :)

I'm wondering if anyone knows how the hotkeys are handled, and would be willing to share. It's very obviously done in software, so this raises some questions. Do they absolutely depend on a particular GNOME component to work? Can that component be used in other window managers like awesome, quarkwm, or windowlab (or whatever else)? Is it possible to make them work in the consoles? (Yes, the old fashioned ones that require a four-finger salute to access)

GNOME is just a bit too heavy for these machines, I feel... but it's a bit of a bother to lose the hotkey functions under lightweight window managers. :3
