Project Proposal
Explore the possibilities of making an Open Games Console out of the EfikaII (5121e) platform.
It will be based on the by Genesi Provided Linux modified to boot to an menu where settings can be changed or auto start an game from an sd card.
There will be support for the following features:
- OpenGL ES for 3d graphics ( http://www.imgtec.com/powervr/insider/sdk/KhronosOpenGLES1xMBX.asp ) using the (binary) mbx driver provided by Freescale/Genesi.
- SDL for 2d graphics (layered on OpenGL ES/MBX driver for hardware acceleration)
- OpenAL (software) for sound ( http://kcat.strangesoft.net/openal.html ) layered on the provided soundcard driver.
- SqLite for game data ( http://www.sqlite.org )
- Optionally provide internet access for multiplayer support or downloadable games
- Input devices will be mouse/keyboard and/or game pad
- Open Platform
- SD Card or USB-Memorystick for distributing games
- GCC and/or Freepascal compiler support
In the end it will provide an minimal linux supporting the above listed features and an sdk with an example game implementation.
