I installed 'factory' today, the latest version of openSUSE. Here are some of my experiences:
- the YaST partitioner works now correctly on Amiga partition tables, so there is no need to use DOS partition tables or use command line tools in most cases. See exception below :-)
- insatllation of CD/DVD version works fine with 256MB of RAM, but installing factory or the ftp version needs a working and enabled swap partition. That means, one needs to start a shell (with the
start_shell boot parameter), if it does not exist, create a swap partition from the command line, and finally enable swap using 'swapon /dev/hdXY'.
- Xorg does not work due to still unresolved PCI domain issues. As an ugly workaround, cd to /etc/X11 and copy xorg.conf.install over xorg.conf which gives you a slow but working X using the FB. It's worth to try it, as both KDE and GNOME received interesting usability enhancements!
- Marvell gigabit does not work. It was all right in 10.1, but not in a politically correct way. A workaround is now being developed.
- 10.2 will feature yaboot as boot manager, but it's currently broken.
