Hi

The i.MX515 include a video decoder and encoder hardware engine.
I found forums showing it works on the freescale dev board.

I hardly tried to get it working on my smarttops:
- on the last genesi OS (Maverick, March 2011), I installed the freescale multimedia codecs binary packages. All I get is system freeze (with gst-launch, gplay or imx unit tests).
- on a gentoo OS (thanks steev for the overlay) with same kernel as above, I compiled freescale multimedia codecs sources and other packages (gstreamer ...) with freescale patches ... same freeze.

My final aim is to do video conferencing, one smarttop encodes and send over net, an other smarttop decodes and display.

Does anyone get more successes or is it some problems I wasn't think (genesi kernel patches ...) ???

Flo

This is why we don't ship them.

We're working on it. Please do not use the Freescale binaries they are not built against our kernel and the userspace<>kernel interface ABI is important.

Hi Matt

Not sure if I have missed it somewhere else... What is the status of the software for the encoder hardware?

regards

David
