A first, experimental build of KDE 4.1.1 for openSUSE 11.0 PPC is available at ftp://spike.fa.gau.hu/pub/bs110/KDE%3A/ ... /standard/ This is my first larger repo recompiled on a local openSUSE BuildService, and not complete, but works for me.

Some of the problems I encountered:
- rsibreak has hardcoded MMX optimizations
- part of soprano needs Java, but that part does not compile, so I had to take it out
- kde4-edu had some missing and duplicated files, so an rpm could not be created

I tested it only for a few hours, but I did not run into any major troubles.

Have a lot of fun!

Quite a few things changed since last week:

- URL of KDE 4.1 changed, as I learned a few things about the inner workings of the BS :-) It is now: ftp://spike.fa.gau.hu/pub/bs/KDE%3A/KDE ... SUSE_11.0/

- kde4-edu compiles fine (and a number of other bugs is solved)

- extra-apps repository was added with koffice2 and some other interesting apps (but kde4-digikam does not work...) See ftp://spike.fa.gau.hu/pub/bs/KDE%3A/KDE ... SUSE_11.0/

- I started to collect some apps to repo 'CzP'. It has now rtorrent and partimage, but I'm open to suggestions. See ftp://spike.fa.gau.hu/pub/bs/CzP/openSUSE_11.0/

- also, if you would like to see any other BS repositories on PPC, let me know. See http://packages.opensuse-community.org/ and http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/

Have a lot of fun!

Finally there was a KDE 4 build in the BS, which feels to be nice and stable again. It is based on KDE 4.1.2 and I'm compiling it right now for openSUSE 11.0 PPC. openSUSE 11.1 will contain it right out of the box.

BTW: 5121e porting shows nice progress! OpenSUSE 11.0 boots now from the HDD, so everything load a lot quicker. I can't say, that KDE 4.1 is flying on this board, but the more RAM, the the slightly faster buses and the lot faster HDD speed make wonders.

Almost there, only the 'extra applications' are missing, like koffice2, amarok, digikam. The rest is ready. I hope to upload all three repositories tomorrow.

Yes, three, as now I also had to compile QT myself, and one will need to add also this repo to install / upgrade to KDE 4.1.2.

OK, everything is compiled and uploaded now. I did not run into any trouble with the base KDE 4.1.2 until now, everything works smoothly. Applications in the 'extra-apps' repository still need some polish, but work much better than last time. Even kde4-digikam is usable to a degree.

There is one change since last upload: one needs to add an extra repository: ftp://spike.fa.gau.hu/pub/bs/KDE:/Qt/openSUSE_11.0/
