The release of Amiga OS 4.1 to Pegasos 2
bumped up the price of second-hand boards
quite abit. How much are you willing to pay?

I would say around 500 EUR for a
Pegasos 2 G4 with compatible memory.

Amigans gladly pay more than that
for second hand AmigaONEs.

Extortion.

They never sold for that much brand new. Plus, once you buy your 500 EUR Pegasos+RAM and pay 80 EUR shipping, you also have to buy a 150 EUR copy of AmigaOS 4.1 too?

Again, extortion.

Extortion or free market.

Choice of words.

I'd use the words dysfunctional market myself...

I found two options, because I like PPC, not x86 nor ARM.
First, buy a SAM440ep (600MHz PPC from AMCC) motherboard
for 585 EUR and this is extortion.
Or second option, buy used PowerMac Quad G5 2.5GHz
for 1600 USD. The second options is very eficient in MIPS/PRICE,
first: 2*600[MIPS]/740 [USD] ~= 1.62 MIPS/USD, second:
2.3*4*2500[MIPS]/1600[USD] = 14.375 MIPS/USD
:D

Or you can buy an YDL/Fixstars PowerStation for $1250. You'll probably have to add some SAS disks (more expensive than SATA), but even then you'll get a new machine for about the same cost as a 3 year old PowerMac.

The second hand PowerMac is only interesting if you absolutely want to run MacOS.

Small-run custom boards are EXPENSIVE to manufacture. You may call it extortion but I doubt they have huge margins on them.

That sounds a bit high. I'm currently trying to sell one of my quads locally and I'm having a hard time even finding a buyer.

This is good alternative but on Fixstars pages I found:
"The ATI X1650 Pro graphics card is no longer found in the market,
therefore, all PowerStations are currently shipping without a graphics card.
The replacement card may or may not have 2D accelleration, so please
consider this when placing your order."
What graphics card buy?

Any PCIe x16 graphics card would do. Why not go for the cheap models like Radeon HD2400? The opensource graphics drivers are coming along a little bit but you would have to deal with YDL on whether you can get them nicely packaged (or alternatively build them yourself and deal with the consequences of not-ready-for-mainstream software)

I found in Poland:
"Powercolor Radeon X1650Pro 256MB DDR2 (64bit), PCI-E, TV/DVI"
for 25 USD only ! :D
