it's just a 'memo' to work with Minicom that can be used to connect to your EFIKA by nullmodem cable...
Here a working config file for minicom-2.2:
Code:
acrux@psyke:~$ minicom -v

There is one issue here.. If you run Minicom on a
a 2.6.17+ kernel all EFIKA output will be distorted.
On 2.6.16 everything is fine, but 2.6.17 up to
2.6.19 is just a mess. And this is in 115200. 9600
to my Sun Ultra1 worked just fine..

Oh, this is not just Minicom, the same happens if
I try Screen. :/

would you mind getting a screenshot of the terminal this happens in? You have kernel 2.6.16 on your efika, or am I not getting the point?

The kernel is on the host machine. You can't
run the EFIKA on anything less than 2.6.19.

Is it a general problem? I don't have such a problem using an USB->Serial converter...

BTW: a week ago I could not get it to work, but yesterday I a bit more relaxed and sort of backported the EFIKA patches to the 2.6.18 SUSE kernel. (OK, it's actually something between 2.6.18 and 2.6.19, so many patches were rejected and applied by hand...)

Yes, it doesn't matter which version of Minicom I use.

czp:
According to Nicolas DET of bPlan the issue is using
the real serial port. He suggests a USB->Serial adapter.
So try a nullmodem on your Pegasos and you'll see.

I have to say that this is a strange issue. I mean "everyone"
seems to use nullmodem cables to their EFIKAs and yet
noone is developing on recent kernels? :-P

Or.. Noone else is reporting the issue. Hehe!

But Neko has confirmed the issue as well. The
problem isn't at my end..

really strange, i've just tested the connection through nullmodem cable using minicom-2.2 from my workstation (kernel 2.6.19-ck2) and it yet works fine.

no, it isn't. It's an x86. Are we talking about Pegasos?

I don't know. I don't have any x86 with serial port
and Linux. My Core2Duo lacks serial so I can't test
it on that one. Maybe it's a kernel-bug related to
just the Pegasos, maybe not.

I have no idea, really.

That's strange, indeed. I've been using serial connection to Efika all the time without any single problem. It works with null modem cable serial-serial (so directly between two physical serial ports) with x86_64 2.6.19-ck1 machine and Efika. It also doesn't have any problem with USB-serial converter on the same machine, two others or even powerbook G4 laptop. I can work on efika through connection from all of them. i'm using minicom version 2.1

Yesterday I tried connecting Pegasos <-> Pegasos and
it b0rked out as well. There is something wrong with
the PowerPC kernel, or a Pegasos issue.

You may use

screen -S console -m -c /dev/null /dev/ttyS0 115200

that seems to work, I _guess_ minicom is the faulty component. even cat /dev/ttyS0 works this way (note that the output is everything but perfect)
