I downloaded and burned FC5 ppc cd's
In the release notes it gives instructions how to boot a Pegasos II.
at firmware prompt type:

The GUI installer was scrambled with my setup
Adding the word 'text' at the end of the boot command installs in text mode.
Had to change the line boot=/dev/hda11 in /boot/yaboot/yaboot.conf to boot=/dev/hda to get FC5 to boot.
To boot from hard drive type

Maybe you should add something like that on the command line to avoid text install :

If you have a RADEON :
video=radeonfb :1024x768@60

Or if you have a Voodoo 3DFX :
video=tdfxfb:1024x768-8@60

By the way, if it worked do you have a snapshot of how it looks ? Was it easy to install ?
Do you think that it would be possible for you to make a tutorial that could be included in the Pegasos book ?

I had pretty bad experiences with test3. I thought, that some more tests will follow and wanted to join testing later on. It turned out to be the last test before release :-(

It was pretty unstable, was unable switch to text console from X, etc. I'm just downloading it and will share my experiences.

Hm, I'm slightly surprised that DRI doesn't work. Please could you file a bug report if there isn't already one open? I think I may have seen the same thing on a Mac with Radeon too.

In what way was the GUI installer 'scrambled'? Did the 'radeonfb=' or 'resolution=1024x768' arguments help?

I tryed the video=radeonfb :1024x768@60 and still no good.
The GUI screen looks like the image was loaded offset by one or two bytes so there is a stair kind of pattern.
The mouse pointer still looks right and moves around the screen ok

I didn't boot through the network, just used the netboot image on the cd
I let the system run over night and with the xmms playing music and dnetc, no problems.

No, they did not help. The 'radeonfb' argument did not change anything, the graphical screen was scramled and had about 800x600 resolution.



The 'resolution' argument seems to help, I got a nice, but 60hz only (brrrrr) graphical installation screen.

Maybe you should try the lowest resolution ?
ie. 640x480@60 ?

The Marvell gigabit ethernet interface is not found by the installer. Even if that one is connected, only the VIA Rhine is found by Anaconda.

No. I use 'resolution=1280x1024', and it works :-)

That's very strange !

I did not have to make make any modifications. Just typed:

and it booted fine from /dev/hdb6.

A short list of problems from the first few minutes of use:

When I log in using the graphical interface, I get an error message: "No '/dev/pmu' device found'

Scroll-lock does not work at all. It has no effect and the status led does not change.
