I'm wondering if anyone has sat down and ported OProfile system profiler to the G3/G4 processor lines.

Currently the PowerPC performance counter support is limited to e500 and POWER/970 processors, leaving a gaping hole in the PowerPC product range. Since there is support for the basic PowerPC architecture I am guessing only specific G4 and G3 features and register/bit mappings need to be taken care of.

Any takers for this? I'm sorry there is no reward for this except recognition :)

I'm probably misunderstanding you but
oprofile runs well on G3/G4 doesn't it?

Only in timer mode. There is no specific G3/G4 support that it needs as far as I see.

Support was added in the kernel for G4. It will be in 2.6.16.

I started patching[1] the userspace part to be a bit more enjoyable, the event list is about 1/20 of the full list but should be enough to start playing with it.

I hope it helps.
