Hi,

Linaro has produced a 12.03 release, which lists Efika MX for several variants.

Before trying I wonder if anybody had experience with it.

On a related note, in case something goes wrong, how would I get my device (Efika MX Smarttop) "restored" to the original state?

Hi.

They probably won't work out of the box without some tweaking, but you can give it a try. I guess they boot from SD card, so they probably won't overwrite any of your data

To restore a system, in case you do install something else, just use the latest Maverick SD card image found here:
http://www.powerdeveloper.org/platforms/efikamx/linux

After creating this SD card, the system will boot from it and you will have the option to restore the system.

What tweaking points I should consider? :)

Code:
http://releases.linaro.org/images/12.03/oneiric/ubuntu-desktop/efikamx-ubuntu-desktop.img.gz

I have put this image on my sd card
Code:
 # sdX - your sdcard slot
  gunzip -c <file> | dd bs=4M of=/dev/sdX

but when i boot efika mx smartbook it ignore to boot linaro 12.03 ,from sd or usb card.

Hi.

You should try taking the root file system from the Linaro image and put it on one of the bootable SD cards (e.g., the ArmHF one) here:

http://www.powerdeveloper.org/platforms/efikamx/linux

That way, you're sure that the SD card will boot (and will do so with a valid kernel).

I tried it. It's probably better to use Efika's version of Ubuntu 10.10. Efika's Ubuntu has problems, and is not able upgrade to 11.10, but it supports wifi and accelerated graphics out-of-the-box.

So the Linaro kernel only misses accelerated graphics and wifi? I can live with that if sound works (sound is what I appreciate most in the EFIKA MX) and I receive a lot more modern environment, than in Ubuntu 10.10 (recent syslog-ng on older Ubuntu is a bit problematic...).

Unfortunately, the audio wasn't working out of the box either (on the Smartbook, don't know about the Smarttop). Unity2d was rather slow (waiting several seconds for windows to appear).

I think the best solution if you need updated packages is to install debian armhf for efika mx, is really updated and more fast than Ubuntu 10.10!

I'm waiting the efikamx repo for debian armhf with video acceleration drivers... I know that the video drivers are ready but the repo server is not already up...
