i tried the BT5 distro, but it does not work, and brings up a ubuntu startup screen with "clemente" as the host.

What does not work ?

BT5 for ARM is a gnome distro with packaged applications for pentests.

"clemente" is the hostname of the ARM BT5 official Distro.

root/toor is the default user !

Is there a GUI for connecting wlan0? (wicd or network manager)
I'm able to login; however, I'm unable to (easily) connect to a WiFi network.

I don't recall if WiCD is included in BT5 or not, I *thought* it was. If you need to you can do it the old fashioned way of getting wireless working, which is to use the /etc/network/interfaces

This is a, off the top of my head, rough timeline of what to do...

wpa_passphrase ssid passphrase >> /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf

Then edit /etc/network/interfaces (this i don't recall entirely but it should match somewhat along the lines of the lo or eth0 that may be in there)

auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
wpa-conf /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf


save, and reboot or restart /etc/init.d/network(ing?)

My mistake. I'm used to running BT5 on the x86 desktop. On the x86 desktop, It has it's own start-up screen, so when I saw Ubuntu, I wasnt sure.

The startup screen is like that because when they designed the ARM BT5 image it was meant to be run from a chroot on an Android phone or tablet. What DrEagle has done was extract it out to an sdcard. Since it wasn't included it defaults to the default plymouth splash screen. That can be changed if someone were to package up the BT5 splash screen for armel.

I have already packaged the armel plymouth, but for debian.
Working well for our next DouDouLinux Release for Genesi.

I can make a new package for Ubuntu/BT5.

What is needed then is just to configure the plymouth for using the correct splashscreen.

I will add this tweaks and make and upload a new image.

They already have a package for it, it's just a matter of recompiling it with armel/armhf added to the Architecture line in the control file.

It's not a plymouth package !

I have just finished some testing and fixes :
- splash screen (boot & shutdown) not verbose
a simple/wallpaper theme have been added (if someone want to make it more verbose)
- wicd python package fixed :
now wicd is loaded in gnome and tested (wpa2/psk) working

I'll uploaded a new image as soon as it is ready.
