Who would like to work on this i.mx51 Project?

Just read through the developer website, and while most new reports about Chrome OS mention ARM, the developer site does not. Supported hw is some Atom netbooks (among them is my Dell mini 10v), supported compile environment is any x86 Linux as long as it is a recent Ubuntu.

Also, this sentence tells a lot about non x86 support:
Quote:
The x86 directory (and others, once we support different architectures) [...]"

So good luck, and let me know, if you have anything to test on ARM :)

Hi Peter, we have one of these:

http://www.slashgear.com/multiple-smart ... n-2063956/

Jeremy Shu is the Business Manager we work with at Pegatron. Here is a related article:

http://www.ubergizmo.com/15/archives/20 ... r_way.html

That is the new version. We were shown one of these when the Pegatron folks visited us at the end of October (grey netbook):

All the netbooks mentioned in this post have an i.mx51.

The Efika MX Open Client and Efika MX Netbook will be supported by the same software package. We will have the Open Clients out first so we should have an advantage on the software side when we start shipping the netbooks.

R&B :)

OK, Ubuntu 9.10 is installed now on my Intel machine. It is ugly as hell compared to my favorite distro, but at least it will be able to compile "google OS" :)

Well, even source downloading takes a lot of time. And I'm not yet at compiling. Even worse, the pre-built browser binary does not seem to be available, so that needs to be built too. I give it a try now...

Still downloading browser sources :-(

While there, I looked around, and found something interesting:
Quote:
czanik@ubuntu910:~/chromiumos/chromiumos.git/src/scripts$ more mk_arm_sd_image.py
#!/usr/bin/env python

This script must be passed a uImage file and a tarred up root filesystem.
It also needs EITHER an output device or a file + size. If you use a real
device, the entire device will be used. if you specify a file, the file
will be truncated to the given length and be formatted as a disk image.

To copy a disk image to a device (e.g. /dev/sdb):
# dd if=disk_image.img of=/dev/sdb bs=4M

from optparse import OptionParser
import math
import os

Current Tegra is quite underpowered on the CPU front (ARM11), but Tegra2 should be better.

Thanks. Posted there my e-mail address for news, but somehow I doubt, that they will have a developer program, like Genesi has, or even have an accessible price... Still, I'm glad to see, that nVidia opens up Tegra towards Linux, for long it was a Windows only shop.

I still could not get to compiling (I use openSUSE as my OS), but found a shortcut: http://discuss.gdgt.com/google/chrome-o ... are-image/

ChromeOS in vmware. It mostly works, but a kind of slow. It was the same with moblin: it is a way lot faster on real hardware due to accelerated graphics. So I'll hack it to my netbook once I got a bit more time.

I think they plan for Chrome OS to ship on smartbooks around October next year. But at the moment it seems like Chromium OS still has a while to go before running on ARM. Most of the ARM related tasks in the chromium-os project are owned by Martin Bligh. He's currently looking for people to test kernel loading times on real hardware. Here's a link if anyone wants to help out:

http://code.google.com/p/chromium-os/is ... ail?id=746

I'll be working on it as soon as the smartbook is available.
