you can uncompress and dd it on a 2GB SD card:

xzcat armhf-2GB_20111122.img.xz |pv | dd of=/dev/mmcblk0 bs=8192

user/pass: demo/demo

root password: root

Should fix most problems with kernel booting.

synaptic is broken and does not work. also is there any chance of being able to use GLX rather than software rendering?

sorry, I did not test synaptic at all, no new image will likely be uploaded soon, effort is underway to get the packages into Debian. I'll test it and will get back to you. In the meantime, apt-get and aptitude should work though :)

With regards to glx, it will not be possible, it's totally incompatible with GLES. So if your goal is to run GL apps with no changes on the smartbook, don't hold your breath -there are some efforts like the Linaro glproxy project- but it will take a -long- while. Right now we're working on getting gnome3 to work with GLES acceleration, so at least some 3D acceleration will be visible. Linaro guys are also working on compiz (=Unity) acceleration, and there are other efforts for 3D accelerating apps.

Stay tuned, it's going to be an interesting ride :)
