Hmmm... that's kinda annoying, but it's also fairly typical of Linux maintainers. They seem to be really bad at maintaining backwards compatibility in stuff.
It's partly our fault, since we're responsible for the installer snapshot(s) to run on our boards which aren't supported yet in the Debian mainline. Especially since Efika board support doesn't easily backport to the kernel version Etch uses, we have to do some fun things like this.

Hopefully this will be the last time we hit this problem, I'd hope we have a way of having installers built monthly to fix any problems or try out new drivers.

Ok, thanks for the logs, it seems that the etch glibc was changed between when we built the installers and the etch release, or something . I didn't think this was possible, but then ...

There are two possibilities, either to build a newer installer with the older working kernel, or to try to get a newer kernel and rebuild the installer.

I will investigate and keep you informed.

Friendly,

Sven Luther

Mmm, this could be related to bug 424640: net-retriever: Should always use udebs from release corresponding to build

The problem is probably that the installer was built before the etch release.

A possible workaround is to boot with the expert option, or go back at the first oportunity to the main menu, and chose stable in the chose-mirror dialogs.

This will make sure that the .udebs loaded are the etch ones, and not the testing (which is now lenny, and has a new glibc) ones.

The solution to this problem should be to boot the installer with the added option :
Code:
mirror/udeb/suite=etch
Can someone please confirm this ?

Just tried it as well, I concur with SoundSquare. Same issue.

Damn, so much for that theory. Will investigate tomorrow.

Hi, i just built a efika 2.6.22-rc3 debian kernel, Matt will make the link available in a bit.

If this works out, it will be part of the debian 2.6.22-rc experimental packages and the 2.6.22 unstable/lenny package once 2.6.22 is released.

Please test once Matt provides the link.

(it is a kernel, not an installer, so it ask for an already existing debian installation).

Friendly,

Sven Luther

Just so you guys know, the guys at bplan updated the di_efika at efika.info and it works.

Sven's still working on a more modern (2.6.22) one for you bleeding-edgers.

The one from bplan does not install a kernel or anything what is needed to set up a kernel (mkzmlinuz and co.). As an ugly workaround I booted the installed system with a SuSE kernel :) But a Debian guru might have a better solution, like installing a kernel while still in the installer...

there's a kernel on the same page (efika.info) for debian on Efika, and sven has some kernels on his page as well. You can still boot using these on a usb stick and then copy the kernel, modules etc to your favorite location.

My EFIKA is happily burbling away installing Debian as I type this. Thanks guys for such a quick and effective fix!

UPDATE: I'm sitting looking at a GNOME desktop :D
