Post subject:  Investigation

Hi, we have begun an in depth investigation into the TI OMAP Platform. We are doing this not only from a technology perspective (we started this earlier in the year), but now more comprehensively related to the marketing and business issues. Google's Open Handset Alliance and TI's involvement has help drive us to the next level of interest.

We will keep you posted.

If you have worked with the platform before, please let us know. Thanks!

Hi.

I think the link in your post is wrong.

Anyway, yes I've worked with that before, especially in a course Telecommunication Software of mine.
The combination of an ARM9/11 with a DSP allows for great applications in Robotics as well.
The top of the line 3430 has basically everything on board to do video processing, audio processing, USB, display controller, SD controller, onboard crypto etc.
Check the high end version here:
OMAP3430
Even the low end version looks cool:
OMAP1510

It's a decent chip targeted at highly mobile devices.

EDIT:
Linux support from MontaVista for the OMAP 2430 is comming in November, followed by OMAP 3430.

Best regards,
Johan

Oh, and before I forget, OMAP will most likely be the hardware of choice for Android based phones.

Android: http://code.google.com/android/

Open Handset alliance: http://www.openhandsetalliance.com/

TI is part of the Open Handset Alliance.

Yes, and TI seems to understand a solution oriented approach verses a technology driven emphasis. Android/the Open Handset Alliance may work just because the focus is on people and their need to communicate from wherever they are -- securely and without a 200W or even a 50W PSU. A "PC" will be a mobile phone one day. Some companies are understanding this faster than others. To get there the abstraction layer is no longer linked to the hardware or the processor. In Android's case it all starts with the 2.6 Linux kernel.
