We're working on it. Not the Ubuntu part, but the GNOME part..

It was wrong for me to speak for genesi and speculate on what the next official image will be (I still do not know for sure) However if you are interested in a Debian Squeeze desktop with gnome and the same hardware support packages that are on maverick (with a few tweaks for Debain Squeeze) check out my thread at

It's not an official genesi image and it only has community support through me on the forums when I have time. but I made it because of posts like this one. (I've also had a squeeze desktop on one of my own smartbooks for a while now and it worked so well for me that I figured other people might be interested)
