The glibc changes seem to break everything: I can't update even the most basic openSUSE image to latest sw versions. Once I have a bit more time, I plan to make a new EFIKA openSUSE image using the Genesi kernel and the rootfs from http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... RM/images/

openSUSE factory is not in its best shape right now even on x86, but after a few weeks, finally I was able to update my openSUSE ARM installation again. Dependency problems coming from the glibc/loader changes are finally gone.

The Xorg update seems to make some new dependency problems, like requiring intel-gpu-tools. I'm ignoring this dependency and see, what happens :-)

And I got to a running Xorg, so it runs fine without intel-gpu-tools :-) Time to restart openSUSE ARM hacking and documentation...

Right now not all packages are built yet and there is no smooth upgrade path.
I hope to post some good news (instructions how to upgrade) in the coming days.

Well, the upgrade path could be easier, but as armv7l -> armv7hl is (hopefully) a one time change, it was decided that it should be done manually.
One should download first a couple of rpm-s from the http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... d/armv7hl/ directory:

(version numbers might differ, as the repo is updated)
First update glibc:

Then the rest of the packages, still using ignorearch. Then refresh zypper chaches from scratch:

and it should use the armv7hl packages from now on.

As the counter at https://build.opensuse.org/project/show ... tory%3AARM showed over 5300 compiled packages (or more than 97% of all openSUSE packages), I started an update on my EFIKA MX. It's updating right now, and thanks to the so called "patterns", which list required and recommended packages for a software group, like XFCE desktop, JDK, ThunderBird and a few more long missing packages are being installed.

According to the stats a hundred more packages are now compiled for openSUSE ARM, the factory version, which I'm using right now. So the latest update installed 60+ more packages ("zypper -v dup" installs any new "recommended" packages, as they become available).
As openSUSE users probably know, "factory" is the constantly evolving development version. This means, that there are updates every few days, which can break things, as you could read in this long forum thread. The good news is, that openSUSE 12.2 is now branched from factory, and packages for 12.2 are being built also for ARM. This should result in a much more stable ARM release in the coming weeks. Combine this with the upcoming 3.5 based Genesi kernel ( viewtopic.php?p=16581#p16581 ), and there will be a fantastic new openSUSE ARM release in September :)
